Viktor Hovland Leads Tour Championship Heading into Final Round
Viktor Hovland holds a one-stroke lead at the Tour Championship, with Ryan Gerard one behind and several contenders within striking distance as the final round approaches.
Viktor Hovland entered Sunday’s final round of the Tour Championship with a solo lead after posting a five-under 65 on Saturday, finishing the round with four birdies in the last six holes. He sits at 15 under par, one stroke ahead of Ryan Gerard, who is at 14 under. A group of players tied at 12 under includes Adam Scott, Ludvig Aberg, Scottie Scheffler and Chris Gotterup. Rory McIlroy, who surged with a seven-under 63 on Saturday, is tied for seventh at 10 under but remains five strokes behind the leader.
Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1, recorded a solid four-under 66 without a bogey, keeping him three strokes off the lead and paired with Gotterup for the final day. He showed visible frustration at times but stays in contention.
McIlroy attributed his recent improvement to a better putting performance, saying he left himself in more favorable positions on the greens and had easier, one-sided putts. > "I feel like I just left myself in better spots on the greens," he said, noting that most of his early birdies came from short, one-putt opportunities.
