Emmy Rossum and creator Elizabeth Meriwether discuss 'Furious' finale and season two plans
Emmy Rossum and series creator Elizabeth Meriwether explained the season-one climax of Hulu’s thriller ‘Furious’ and confirmed the show’s renewal for a second season.
Hulu’s thriller series ‘Furious’ concluded its first season with a showdown at the Easton estate, where FBI agent Alice (Emmy Rossum) kills the predator Jay Easton after a tense exchange with the serial killer Catherine. The episode ends with Alice’s brief smile, hinting at unresolved secrets, as the series was officially renewed for a second season.
In an interview, Rossum said the show’s premise—“a female FBI agent hunting a female serial killer”—was appealing because it explores misogyny in a law-enforcement setting and evolves into an intimate character study of the women involved. She noted that Alice’s decision to let Catherine go reflects a risky but necessary shift, revealing suppressed memories that drive her actions.
Creator Elizabeth Meriwether explained that the twist revealing Catherine’s role in Isabel’s death emerged during the writing process rather than being pre-planned. She described the final scene as a pivotal moment where Alice confronts the truth about a mysterious tape that has been viewed thousands of times, setting up new motivations for the character.
"We don’t get to decide what someone’s punishment will be," Rossum quoted Alice saying in the finale.
"When I’m killing him, it’s like I’m eating him," Catherine’s monologue was highlighted, illustrating her visceral sense of power.
Both Rossum and Meriwether reflected on the challenges of filming the emotionally charged scenes, praising each other’s performances and emphasizing the collaborative effort that shaped the series’ tone. They indicated that Alice now carries a new secret—her involvement in Jay’s death—and that her quest to access the evidence room will drive the narrative in season two.
