Peter Cullen, the iconic voice behind Optimus Prime and Eeyore, died at his Los Angeles home at age 85, with his family requesting that his legacy inspire compassion and community service.

Peter Cullen, the veteran voice actor celebrated for portraying Optimus Prime in the "Transformers" franchise and Eeyore in "Winnie the Pooh," died on Wednesday at his Los Angeles residence, his agent Kevin Motley confirmed to ABC News. No cause of death was disclosed.

"Peter Cullen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family -- and held in the hearts of his many friends and countless fans worldwide," the family statement read, adding a request that people honor his legacy by serving their communities with compassion, integrity and loyalty.

Cullen's career spanned more than 200 credits, including roles in "Knight Rider," "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers," and vocal effects for the 1987 film "Predator." He began his entertainment work as the announcer on "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" in the 1970s, which launched his acting career.

In interviews, Cullen recalled discovering his talent for voices on a dairy farm as a child and later described voicing Eeyore as a "simply charming" experience that delighted young audiences.
