Danny Boyle's film 'Ink' premieres at Telluride Festival

Resumen

Director Danny Boyle's drama about Rupert Murdoch's launch of The Sun debuted in North America at the Telluride Film Festival, with the film slated for a Netflix release in January.

Danny Boyle arrived in Telluride for the North American premiere of his drama "Ink," which recounts Rupert Murdoch’s 1969 launch of the British tabloid The Sun. The title refers to the printing ink used for newspapers, not to tattoos, Boyle clarified to the audience.

Australian actor Guy Pearce portrays Murdoch, while Jack O’Connell plays editor Larry Lamb, a veteran of Fleet Street. Boyle noted his long-standing desire to work with O’Connell, recalling a brief previous collaboration.

The film, adapted by James Graham from his award-winning 2018 play, is set in 1969 London and depicts Murdoch’s transformation of a modest broadsheet into a leading tabloid. Critics have described it as a fast-paced, energetic portrayal of a pre-digital media era.

"I’ve never been in the Werner Herzog Theater, and that is a privilege beyond belief," said Oscar-winning director Werner Herzog, who was present at the screening. "When you make a film, you feel lost a lot of the time… Julie [Huntsinger, executive director of Telluride] was the first to ring up and say she was going to invite it to Telluride. It’s the rush of the ocean to the heart for a filmmaker."

"Ink" will be released on Netflix in January after its festival run.
