SpaceX confirms $100 billion Starship launch complex in Louisiana
On 26 August, SpaceX said it plans to build a 125,000-acre Starship launch complex in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, a project valued at $100 billion that is expected to create thousands of jobs and to host the first Starship flight from the site in 2029. The announcement follows earlier reports that the company intended to invest $100 billion in a Gulf Coast spaceport, with construction originally slated for 2025-2027 and the first launch targeted for 2029.
Louisiana officials, including Governor Jeff Landry, had previously confirmed the multi-pad site and pledged state support. In addition, Ars Technica noted that SpaceX will shift some Falcon 9 launches from Florida to its West Coast facilities as it prepares for Starship operations, with mid-2027 launch windows anticipated.
