Virginia doctor traps bat that entered her mouth, urges rabies precautions

According to WCVB, Richmond gastroenterologist Dr. Krista Edelman trapped a bat that tried to crawl into her mouth and warned that anyone who finds a bat indoors should seek immediate rabies risk assessment. WRAL earlier reported that Edelman posted a video of the encounter on Instagram, prompting Virginia health officials to stress prompt testing and vaccination when bats are found inside homes.

The New York Post later said the bat bit her, tested negative for rabies, and she received post-exposure prophylaxis. Click2Houston added that she sought emergency care and began a vaccination series, urging residents of older houses to check for bats. USA Today noted that she sought medical advice and called on the public to treat possible bat exposures seriously.
