Patriots and rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez negotiate four-year extension
NBC Sports reported that the New England Patriots and rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez were in talks on August 30 in Foxborough to extend his contract for four years, with the negotiations centered on salary structure rather than length. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said the team was working with Gonzalez on his contract concerns and asked for patience. CBS Sports noted speculation about possible trade destinations, including Dallas, Detroit, Washington and New York.
Bleacher Report said the two sides remained far from a deal ahead of the season opener. Gonzalez told reporters the talks were frustrating but affirmed his focus on the upcoming season, and NBC Sports earlier reported that he returned to practice after a two-week absence due to an undisclosed injury.
