Tropical Storm Dolly expected to bring heavy rain to Caribbean islands

Resumen

The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Tropical Storm Dolly will produce significant rainfall across the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola later this weekend.

Tropical Storm Dolly, located about 990 miles east of the Leeward Islands and moving west at roughly 24 mph, is projected to bring heavy rain to parts of the Caribbean this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph and a central pressure estimated at 1,007 millibars.

"Models show a very good agreement through the weekend on a weakening trend as it nears the Caribbean," said First Warning chief meteorologist Tony Mainolfi.

Despite an expected weakening trend, the storm could affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, with possible impacts in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola on Sunday and Monday. The NHC characterizes Dolly as a short-lived tropical storm and does not anticipate major impacts in Florida. No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect.
