Apple upgrades pending Mac mini orders to new M6 model at no extra cost
Apple told customers with unshipped Mac mini orders that they will receive the newly announced M6 version for free, though delivery dates may change.
Apple has notified customers whose Mac mini orders with the earlier M4 processor have not yet shipped that the devices will be upgraded to the newly announced Mac mini equipped with an M6 chip, without any additional charge. The company said the upgrade is automatic because the orders are still pending fulfillment.
The new Mac mini starts at $899 in the United States, $100 more than the previous $799 price, meaning some buyers will effectively receive a discount on the latest model. Apple’s communication indicated that the upgrade could affect delivery timelines; one customer reported an earlier arrival date, while another said their shipment was delayed by several weeks and they were not offered a choice to decline the upgrade.
Apple introduced the M6-based Mac mini alongside M5 Pro variants and a new Mac Studio featuring M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. Both product lines are available for pre-order and are slated to launch on September 22.
