Angel Reese sets new WNBA rebounding records in Atlanta win over Los Angeles

Resumen

Angel Reese recorded 26 rebounds, breaking the single-game record, and surpassed the season total record while helping the Atlanta Dream defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 78-71.

Angel Reese collected 26 rebounds for the Atlanta Dream in a 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, breaking Chamique Holdsclaw's single-game record of 24 set in 2003. The performance also gave Reese the highest single-season rebounding total in league history, with 458 rebounds, surpassing A’ja Wilson's previous mark of 451.

Reese contributed 11 points, three assists and three steals in 38 minutes of play. > "Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight, I couldn’t hit s–t, so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side," she said on a post-game broadcast. > "I just want to be consistent for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win."

The win kept Atlanta atop the Eastern Conference with a 25-13 record, a half-game ahead of the Indiana Fever, and the Dream have already secured a playoff berth. Reese's rebound surge follows a career-high 31-point game against the Phoenix Mercury two days earlier.

Dream guard Allisha Gray praised the effort, saying, "That’s a talent. I’m just in awe watching her rebound." Coach Karl Smesko noted, "Angel’s been remarkable on this trip. You can see her getting better each month."

Reese, who reached the season rebounding record in just 37 games, credited veteran Tina Charles for mentorship, stating, "All the vets pour into me… I’m really grateful for them, especially Tina."

Atlanta will host the Connecticut Sun on Aug. 28 and the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 30 before the league pauses for the FIFA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
