Angel Reese breaks WNBA single-game rebounding record with 26 boards

Summary

Angel Reese recorded 26 rebounds for the Atlanta Dream, setting a new WNBA single-game record and surpassing the league's season total in the same contest.

Angel Reese captured 26 rebounds for the Atlanta Dream in a 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, establishing a new WNBA single-game record and moving past the league's season rebounding mark in the same game.

Reese said on the post-game broadcast that she focused on rebounding after missing shots, adding, "I just want to be consistent for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win."

The performance followed a career-high 31 points she scored in a win at Phoenix two days earlier. The Dream, now 25-13, completed a 4-0 West Coast road trip and remain in playoff contention.

Atlanta coach Karl Smesko praised her progress, noting, "Angel's been remarkable on this trip. You can see her getting better each month."

Reese eclipsed Chamique Holdsclaw's 2003 record of 24 rebounds and now holds 458 rebounds in 37 games, exceeding A'ja Wilson's season total by seven. Her previous career high was 22 rebounds set during her rookie season with the Chicago Sky.

With the rebound on Monday, Reese logged her 27th double-double of the season, needing one more to tie Alyssa Thomas's single-season record. Dream guard Allisha Gray said, "That's a talent. I'm just in awe watching her rebound."

A three-time All-Star, Reese has led the league in rebounding her first two seasons and is averaging 12.4 rebounds per game this year. In college, she averaged 12.3 rebounds and once grabbed 28 in a single game.

Reese, 24, now has 1,281 career rebounds in 101 WNBA games. She credited veteran Tina Charles for advice, saying the experienced players have helped her reach the current milestone.
