Police vehicles seen chasing car minutes before A66 crash that killed seven
Security camera footage shows police cars pursuing a vehicle three minutes before a collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough that resulted in seven deaths, prompting an IOPC investigation.
Security camera footage captured several police vehicles pursuing a car on Lime Road at about 03:36 BST on Saturday, roughly three minutes before a Volkswagen Passat travelling the wrong way on the A66 collided with a marked police vehicle. The crash killed seven people, including two police officers. The police car involved in the collision was not part of the earlier pursuit, and the chase had ended before the impact. Following a mandatory referral by Cleveland Police, the Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
