Tesla initiates largest recall to date over door-handle issues

China's automotive safety agency announced that Tesla will recall roughly 3 million vehicles after identifying a defect in the door-handle mechanism that could affect driver safety. The agency said the majority of the remediation can be applied through the company's over-the-air software system, but owners will also receive physical warning stickers and updates to camera-related functions.

"We are working closely with Tesla to ensure the necessary software patches are deployed promptly and that affected owners receive clear instructions on the additional steps required," the regulator stated.

The recall, described as Tesla's biggest to date, covers multiple models sold in the Chinese market. While the software updates address the immediate safety concern, the physical stickers are intended to alert drivers until the hardware issue can be fully resolved.
