Texas appeals court reduces Alex Jones' Sandy Hook judgment to $1.5 million

Resumen

A Texas appellate court cut the $50 million verdict against Infowars founder Alex Jones to $1.5 million, citing insufficient proof that his statements caused damages beyond the state's cap.

A Texas appellate panel on Tuesday reduced the $50 million judgment against Infowars founder Alex Jones to $1.5 million. The decision stems from a lawsuit in which the Sandy Hook parents, Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, alleged that Jones' false claims that the 2012 school shooting was a hoax led to harassment and emotional distress.

The Texas Third Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that the plaintiffs did not present evidence showing the harassment rose to a level that would justify damages exceeding the state’s $750,000 cap.

The reduced award applies only to the Texas case and does not affect a separate $1.4 billion judgment against Jones in Connecticut.
