Dolphins' offensive line struggles in joint practice with Giants
In a joint practice, the Miami Dolphins' offensive line had difficulty protecting the quarterback against the New York Giants, while several scuffles and injuries were reported.
Miami Gardens – The Miami Dolphins' offensive line showed noticeable weakness in pass protection during Thursday's joint practice with the New York Giants, as the Giants consistently pressured Dolphins quarterbacks and recorded multiple sacks.
The session, the last open to fans, featured a number of on-field altercations. Right tackle Austin Jackson was temporarily removed after throwing an open-handed punch at a Giants defender, though he returned later in the drill. Rookie guard Francis Mauigoa left the field mid-practice for medical attention after suffering a stinger.
Giants players, including Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Burns and edge rusher Chop Robinson, were highlighted by head coach Jeff Hafley, who emphasized a desire for increased physicality. Robinson was credited with effective play against both the run and pass, and the Giants' defensive line outperformed the Dolphins' line in one-on-one drills.
Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis completed several short passes but was sacked several times, notably by Giants defensive end Chauncey Golston. The Dolphins' run blocking appeared more effective than their pass protection, as evidenced by successful rushing gains during the drills.
The practice also saw a number of injuries and medical evaluations, including A.J. Henning receiving attention for a possible arm issue and James Ester exiting with a leg injury. Training camp is winding down, with only three practices remaining before the preseason finale against Atlanta and the regular-season opener scheduled for September 13 in Las Vegas.
