Buccaneers and DT Vita Vea Agree to One-Year Extension
Defensive tackle Vita Vea will remain with Tampa Bay on a one-year, $30 million extension that raises his 2026 salary to $24 million.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers and defensive tackle Vita Vea have reached a one-year contract extension, according to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter. The deal adds $30 million for the 2025 season, converting Vea's original $18 million 2026 salary into a two-year, $48 million agreement and increasing his 2026 pay to $24 million with an additional $6 million in new money for the current year. Schefter noted that the terms of the extension have not been confirmed as fully guaranteed, suggesting the raise may not include a commitment beyond 2026.
Vea, a 2018 first-round pick, has started 107 of his 112 regular-season appearances and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2021 and 2024. He was also part of the Buccaneers' Super Bowl LV championship team in 2020. Prior to the agreement, Vea had expressed a desire for a trade and was reportedly absent from practice while negotiating a new contract.
