Neutrogena issues statement on Hayden Panettiere's death and past contract termination

Resumen

Neutrogena expressed condolences after actress Hayden Panettiere's death and said it will invest in programs supporting women with postpartum depression, acknowledging past mishandling of her departure.

Neutrogena released a statement on Thursday following the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, addressing public criticism that the company terminated her contract in 2015 after she discussed postpartum depression. The brand said Panettiere had been a "valued member" of its community for more than a decade and acknowledged that it "made her feel unsupported during a very difficult time," adding that such treatment does not reflect the company's values.

"Hayden's courage in sharing her challenges helped inspire important conversations and awareness," the statement read, noting that Neutrogena will make a "significant investment" with a long-standing community health partner to expand access to support for women, including care for postpartum depression. Details of the initiative will be disclosed when plans are finalized.

The company also said it delayed commenting out of respect for Panettiere's family, and extended its deepest condolences to her loved ones.

Panettiere, 36, was found in cardiac arrest in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday. Authorities confirmed emergency responders found her in that condition, and the Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting with the investigation.

The actress had spoken publicly about her struggles with opioid and alcohol addiction and, in 2015, entered treatment for postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter. In a recent podcast interview, she recounted that Neutrogena informed her of her termination following a 2015 television interview in which she mentioned postpartum depression, describing the lack of communication from the brand as "heartbreaking."

Fans have revived clips of her remarks and called for a boycott of the skincare company. Neutrogena's statement did not address the specific allegations of illegal termination but pledged future action to support women's health.
