Apple’s macOS Tahoe 26.7 Release Candidate Contains Unreleased Product References
A release-candidate build of macOS Tahoe 26.7 inadvertently included code and assets for several unreleased Apple devices, likely due to a merge error, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Apple’s latest release-candidate build of macOS Tahoe 26.7 was found to contain references to a range of unreleased products, including home devices, iPhones, iPads, AirPods and Macs. The build, which is typically provided to developers just before final public release, is not expected to contain any features that have not been approved for launch.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman explained in his Power On newsletter that Apple assembles software updates by merging multiple development branches that contain bug fixes, assets and future-hardware support. He said an internal build that supports unreleased hardware was likely merged into the branch intended for the public release, causing the unintended references to appear.
"Something that was supposed to remain inside Apple got tangled up with the shipping software – and made it all the way to the release candidate," Gurman wrote.
All of the product references, except for a video showing AirPods with cameras, have appeared in earlier software builds, indicating ongoing development of rumored devices. The camera-equipped AirPods are projected for a 2027 launch, and the hardware shown in the video is believed to be a shelved prototype that has been replaced by a newer model. Apple is expected to remove the unreleased product references before the final public release of macOS Tahoe.
