UK Prime Minister Reaffirms Full Support for Ukraine Amid Russian Threats Over Drone Use

Resumen

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the UK will maintain 100% support for Ukraine despite Moscow's warning of consequences for the use of British-made drones in attacks on Russia.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the United Kingdom will continue to provide full support to Ukraine, rejecting Russian warnings that the use of British-built drones in recent attacks could bring "consequences" for London. The Russian embassy in London claimed that Ukrainian forces had employed unmanned aircraft from two UK companies, accusing Britain of escalating the conflict and seeking to contain Russia by proxy.

Burnham responded that the UK's policy has consistently been to back Ukraine against what he described as an illegal war launched by Vladimir Putin, adding that Britain will stand with Ukraine "in its hour of need" and will not be deterred by threats.

Work and pensions minister Lilian Greenwood echoed the stance, telling Sky News that the UK's resolve to supply equipment to Ukraine remains "completely steadfast".

Former Russian deputy foreign minister Andrey Fedorov suggested that NATO might limit its response to a political statement rather than collective defence, citing internal instability within the alliance. Former defence secretary Grant Shapps warned that any attack on a NATO member would likely provoke a coordinated response, noting that Britain, France, Germany and Poland together spend significantly more on defence than Russia.

Former foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind highlighted the heightened risk to Russia should it target a nuclear-armed state, and former national security adviser Peter Ricketts described Moscow's warning as an attempt to intimidate and divide public opinion in the UK.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said Russia should have no doubt about the UK's determination to oppose Russian aggression in Ukraine and against the UK and its allies. Kyiv has increased long-range missile and drone operations against Russian military and economic targets, a strategy aimed at reducing Moscow's war financing and extending the conflict's impact within Russia.
