L3Harris appoints Sam Mehta as CEO after board finds misconduct by former chief
L3Harris Technologies said its chief executive Christopher Kubasik stepped down following a board investigation that identified conduct inconsistent with company values, and named Sam Mehta as his successor.
L3Harris Technologies announced that CEO Christopher Kubasik has left the role after the board of directors concluded he engaged in conduct that violated the firm’s code of conduct. The company said the behavior was unrelated to financial reporting, internal controls, customer relationships or operational performance. An external law firm assisted the investigation, and the board determined a separation agreement was in the company’s best interest.
Sam Mehta, who joined L3Harris in 2023 and previously led its space and mission systems and communications and spectrum dominance units, was appointed president and chief executive officer. The two segments together generate more than 80% of L3Harris’ revenue.
"Sam is a proven executive who brings deep knowledge of our business, priorities and culture, making him ideally suited to lead at this important time," said Lewis Hay III, lead independent director and newly named chairman of the board.
Mehta said he was honored by the opportunity and intends to work closely with colleagues to advance the company’s growth strategy.
Hay added that Kubasik, who oversaw the 2019 merger of L3 and Harris Corp. and the 2023 acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne, had "overseen significant transformation during his tenure" and that the board appreciated his service. Under the separation agreement, Kubasik will not receive severance, benefits or equity awards, but may retain and exercise previously vested stock options.
The leadership change comes as L3Harris prepares to spin off its missile solutions unit, a move that the Pentagon has delayed until at least mid-2027.
