Mary Peltola Leads Alaska Senate Primary Over Incumbent Dan Sullivan

Resumen

In Alaska's nonpartisan primary, Democrat Mary Peltola holds a narrow lead over Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan, with both expected to advance to the November general election.

With about two-thirds of the votes tallied, former U.S. House member Mary Peltola is ahead of incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan in Alaska's nonpartisan primary for the U.S. Senate. Peltola has 46.8% of the vote, while Sullivan trails at 44.4%. A second Republican, Dan J. Sullivan, a retired schoolteacher and former Forest Service employee, is in third place with roughly 2.4%.

The primary, held on Tuesday, will advance the top four vote-getters to the November general election. Peltola, who became the first Alaska Native and the first woman to represent the state in the House in 2022, is seeking to flip the Senate seat as Democrats aim to regain control of Congress. Sullivan is running for a third term.

"Tonight shows Alaskans are fired up and ready for an independent voice in the Senate who will fix the rigged system, lower costs, and put Alaska first," Peltola posted on social media.

State officials confirmed the results after the state supreme court ruled earlier this year that Dan J. Sullivan met the qualifications to appear on the ballot, despite challenges from within the Republican Party.
