18-Year-Old Charged in Kentucky Park Shooting That Killed Teen

Resumen

An 18-year-old was arrested and charged with murder and assault after a Saturday night shooting at Charles Young Park in Lexington left one teenager dead and four others injured.

Police in Lexington arrested Jametrius Griffin within 24 hours of a mass shooting at Charles Young Park that left a 16-year-old boy dead and four other people wounded, including a 14-year-old and a four-year-old. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7 p.m. on Saturday and found five victims at the East End Day community celebration.

The Fayette County coroner’s office identified the deceased as Di’Zhon Robertson. Griffin faces a murder charge, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and a tampering with physical evidence charge.

"Counsellors will be at local high schools on Monday to help students with heavy hearts and distracted minds," said Devine Camara, head of the One Lexington community advocacy group, in a social-media post.

The Lexington incident was among nine mass shootings reported in the United States over the weekend, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an event with four or more victims injured or killed. The archive notes that, as of Monday, 2026 has seen 305 mass shootings and more than 8,100 deaths, including nearly 700 children.

Other weekend shootings included a fatal shooting outside a nightclub in Hartford, Connecticut, and two separate incidents in Texas that each claimed a life. One Texas case involved a 44-year-old woman shot while trying to help a friend escape a domestic-violence situation, and another occurred in a Houston parking lot where a fight turned deadly.

Detective Alexander Vinogradov of the Houston police department said the parking-lot gatherings, known locally as “Club Chevron,” often involve alcohol and firearms, leading to violent outcomes.
