One dead, four injured in Lexington outdoor concert shooting

Résumé

A shooting at an outdoor concert in Lexington, Kentucky, left one person dead and four others, including two children, injured. Police have not made any arrests.

A shooting occurred at about 6:45 p.m. on Saturday at Charles Young Park in Lexington, Kentucky, during an outdoor concert. One person was killed and four others were wounded, two of whom were children aged 14 and 4. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Governor Andy Beshear, who was speaking at a Democratic Party dinner about a mile away, acknowledged the incident, saying, "Before I continue, I do need to let y’all know we have some tough news tonight," and later confirming the casualties.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers told reporters that no suspect had been identified and no arrests had been made, adding, "If you know somebody who might be inclined to use a weapon, please do anything you can do to let us know before something happens. Please let us know."

Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public. The shooting follows a separate incident at Virginia State University earlier that day.
