Browns evaluate quarterback options after preseason performance
The Cleveland Browns assessed the play of Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders in their first preseason game, noting ongoing uncertainty at the quarterback position.
The Cleveland Browns reviewed the performances of quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders during the first preseason game and concluded that the team has not yet identified a clear starter. Watson completed a moderate percentage of his passes but appeared hesitant in the pocket, while Sanders struggled to generate consistent results against a basic defensive scheme. Comparisons were made to a veteran quarterback who faced a similar defensive alignment and was able to locate open receivers more effectively.
Coaches indicated that the quarterback competition will continue through training camp, with the final decision expected after further evaluation. Analysts suggested that the organization may need to explore additional options, such as future drafts, trades, or free-agent acquisitions, to address the position in the longer term.
