Trump vows unprecedented economic action against Iran and warns allies of sanctions
President Donald Trump said the United States will launch a severe economic operation targeting Iran and warned any nation aiding Tehran could face significant economic repercussions.
President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the United States will undertake what he described as the most severe economic operation ever directed at a country, aimed at Iran. He said Tehran had missed an opportunity to negotiate a settlement and would now confront extensive economic pressure and isolation.
Trump warned that any nation whose financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities provide support to Iran would face “tremendous economic consequences.” He called for allies to join the United States in isolating what he termed the Iran threat.
The administration has already imposed broad sanctions on Iran’s oil, shipping and financial sectors, a naval blockade on Iranian ports, and targeted entities believed to facilitate the country’s oil sales. The new statement marks another escalation in a campaign that began in April under the label Operation Economic Fury.
"I think the first question is: What economic pressures can he exert on Iran that are not already being exerted?" said Mike Hanna, a reporter in Washington, noting the lack of specific details about any new measures. He added that the remarks might be intended to signal a strong stance to the American public amid ongoing conflict.
