Berkshire Hathaway's AI-Focused Holdings Now Center on Apple and Alphabet
Greg Abel, Warren Buffett's successor at Berkshire Hathaway, has increased the conglomerate's exposure to Apple and Alphabet, which together account for about 35% of its portfolio.
Greg Abel, who took over as chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway after Warren Buffett stepped down in early 2026, has continued the firm’s long-standing investment approach. Under his leadership the conglomerate has reinforced its positions in Apple and Alphabet, which together represent roughly 34.7% of Berkshire’s equity holdings.
Apple now makes up about 22% of the portfolio. The company’s large installed base of more than 2.5 billion active devices is being leveraged to roll out artificial-intelligence features, a move the firm believes could boost device renewal rates and expand its services revenue. Despite a recent dip in share price following a mixed earnings report, analysts note that Apple’s high-margin services segment and its ecosystem-driven customer loyalty provide a durable competitive advantage.
Alphabet accounts for roughly 13% of Berkshire’s holdings. Berkshire first bought the stock in the third quarter of 2025, a decision attributed to Buffett. The company’s cloud business, which includes AI-related offerings, has shown strong revenue growth, and the firm reported a $514 billion cloud backlog at the end of the second quarter. While Alphabet’s free-cash-flow turned negative due to AI investments and it faces numerous legal challenges related to YouTube, its core advertising and streaming operations remain robust.
"Apple is probably the best business in the world," Buffett has said in past comments, reflecting the high regard in which the conglomerate holds the tech giant.
"Alphabet’s AI business is contributing meaningfully to Google Cloud's strength," a company statement noted, underscoring the strategic importance of AI to its cloud services.
The increased weighting in these two technology firms aligns with Berkshire’s historical preference for businesses with strong cash flows, sizable market positions and long-term growth prospects.
