Google rolls out Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 to Pixel 6a through Pixel 10 series
Google has released the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 update for Pixel 6a to Pixel 10 devices, adding security measures against call-forwarding fraud and fixing several bugs.
Google released the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 update for Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 models, including the Pixel 10a, on Friday. The new build is not yet available for the pre-order Pixel 11 series.
The update, which can be obtained through the Android Beta Program or by flashing OTA images, introduces security restrictions aimed at preventing programmatic call-forwarding fraud. According to Google’s changelog, the sendUssdRequest() API is now blocked for call-forwarding codes when only the CALLPHONE permission is granted, and apps will receive a USSDERRORNOTALLOWED callback. Users who manually dial call-forwarding codes in the system dialer will see an OS-level confirmation dialog before the command is executed. USSD requests unrelated to call forwarding, such as mobile money transfers, remain unaffected.
Developers whose apps rely on call-forwarding functionality are advised to handle the new error callback gracefully or switch to the ACTION_DIAL intent to let users confirm the action manually.
The beta also resolves two reported issues: a visual corruption and unexpected restart triggered by opening the notification shade or Quick Settings, and false battery-capacity degradation warnings displayed by the Device Health and Support tool.
"If your app is affected, verify that it handles the USSDERRORNOTALLOWED failure callback gracefully. For apps requiring call-forwarding setup that do not qualify for an exempted role, migrate your flow to use the ACTIONDIAL intent to pre-fill the dialer, allowing the user to manually confirm the action," the changelog reads.
