The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on August 22 that they will retain rookie quarterbacks Drew Allar and Will Howard on the roster despite a recent preseason loss, while the status of backup Mason Rudolph remains uncertain. Earlier in the preseason, the Steelers defeated the Green Bay Packers 28-9 on August 13, with Allar completing ten of thirteen passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns, according to Bleacher Report.

NBC Sports added that fellow rookie Will Howard also posted a strong debut. Coach Mike McCarthy later said Howard would start the upcoming game against the New York Jets, with Allar slated to play later, as reported by NBC Sports.
