Steelers to start Will Howard, with rookie Drew Allar following in Friday's game

Resumen

Head coach Mike McCarthy announced that second-year quarterback Will Howard will start against the New York Jets, with rookie Drew Allar slated to play later, while Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph will sit out.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will give their veteran quarterbacks a rest for Friday night’s matchup with the New York Jets. Head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that second-year quarterback Will Howard will start, and rookie Drew Allar will take over later in the game. Neither Aaron Rodgers nor backup Mason Rudolph will see action this week.

"I think you understand, they’re young. Will didn’t get to play last year. Drew’s a first-year player. Have two veterans I feel really good about, obviously, with Aaron and Mason. Saw what I needed to see from Mason last week. I’ve talked highly about Mason, really, since the spring. So I want to max out the opportunities for both Will and Drew," McCarthy said via Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com.
