Showrunner says work on Lanterns season two is underway despite no green light

Resumen

Series creator Chris Mundy is six weeks into outlining a second season of HBO's Lanterns, though the renewal has not yet been confirmed.

Series creator Chris Mundy is already developing a follow-up to HBO’s Lanterns, even though the show has only begun its first season. He told the Hollywood Reporter that the team feels they told the story well in season one and hopes audiences will be interested in a second installment.

"We feel good that we told the story in season one well," Mundy said. "The question is whether [season two] is a story people are interested in. We’ll see. I hope so. If that’s the case, then we’ll get to do another one. We’ll tell it in a slightly different way, so that it feels fresh, with characters you know and care about."

Mundy, who is collaborating with comic-book writer Christopher Cantwell on the new scripts, said the writers are about six weeks into the story-breaking phase and will soon present their plans to the network. He acknowledged that a renewal is not guaranteed and that creators must remain confident while preparing for the possibility of cancellation.

"You have to go forward with total confidence as if it’s going to happen. If it doesn’t happen, you also have to not be heartbroken. You have to just say, ‘Okay, that’s the way it is.’"

Lanterns, which follows Earth’s first Green Lantern Hal Jordan and his trainee John Stewart as they investigate alien murders in Nebraska, currently airs on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EST.
