Selena Gomez's lawyer calls new investor fraud suit meritless

Resumen

Attorney Mathew S. Rosengart said the lawsuit accusing Gomez and associates of defrauding investors in the Wondermind startup lacks factual and legal basis, and a motion to dismiss will be filed.

A lawsuit filed Thursday by two entities, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, alleges that singer Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and Wondermind co-founder Daniella Pierson defrauded investors in the mental-health startup Wondermind, seeking about $1.2 million in damages. The complaint claims the trio made false representations, including that Gomez would be "intimately involved" in operations, and that a contract she allegedly signed was ignored, leading to a collapsed business and unpaid employees.

Rosengart, Gomez’s attorney, told People that the allegations are "completely meritless, both factually and legally" and said his firm will file a motion to dismiss the case. > "The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported 'fraud' or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally. We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her."

Gomez’s mother also denied the claims in a statement to the New York Times. Wondermind, launched in 2021, was described as a platform offering daily mental-health content and community support. Investors said they learned of alleged management problems only after a 2023 report on the startup’s working conditions.
