Trump says Iran not ready for deal as US prepares new sanctions

Resumen

President Donald Trump said Iran is not prepared to reach a satisfactory agreement, while the United States readies what it calls the toughest sanctions ever imposed on Tehran.

President Donald Trump stated on Friday that Iran "would love to make a deal, but they're not ready to make the right deal," indicating that Washington will continue to apply pressure on Tehran. The U.S. Treasury announced plans to introduce a new round of sanctions that officials described as the most severe ever targeted at Iran.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei responded on X, calling the anticipated sanctions an "assertion of extraterritorial sovereignty" and saying they lack basis in international law. Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, urged an end to the conflict, telling doctors that the country is now in a position of "power and dignity" to conclude hostilities.

In a separate statement, Iranian army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said the military has shifted from a defensive to a more offensive doctrine, pledging a broader response to any aggression and highlighting restored equipment and increased capabilities, including control over the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright claimed that the U.S. Navy had helped move roughly 20 million barrels of oil out of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, asserting that oil flow through the waterway remains robust.

Trump also declared the Strait of Hormuz an "American territory" and warned that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon, saying any such development would lead to severe consequences.
