Trump warns he will bomb Oman if it hinders US-Iran talks over Hormuz
President Donald Trump said the United States would bomb Oman should the Gulf nation impede negotiations with Iran on the Strait of Hormuz, reviving a threat he made earlier this year.
President Donald Trump told Fox News that Iran must surrender and warned that the United States would bomb Oman if the country "gets in the way" of American talks with Tehran. > "If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the s*** out of them," Trump said during the interview.
The remark follows a recent expiration of a 60-day memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran that had underpinned limited peace talks but collapsed earlier this month. Iran and Oman have been negotiating a separate arrangement to manage maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil and gas shipments.
An IRGC spokesperson rejected Trump’s claim of a back-channel with the Iranian militia, calling the president’s statements “fantasies caused by the delusions and nightmares he has suffered as a result of defeat and desperation in the war.”
Trump previously issued a similar warning in May, telling reporters that if Oman and Iran tried to jointly control the strait, the United States would have to "blow them up." The U.S. State Department later confirmed the comment referred to Oman.
Oman, which has acted as a neutral mediator between the United States and Iran, has not publicly supported any Iranian control of the strait. The two Gulf states are negotiating a joint declaration on a new shipping route, which Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said aims to protect both nations’ sovereign rights while ensuring safe commercial passage.
Analysts note that a U.S.–excluded Oman-Iran agreement could undermine Washington’s demand that Iran relinquish control of the strait as a condition for ending the conflict that began after the February 28 U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran. The dispute has contributed to rising global oil prices, with Brent crude futures hovering near $91 a barrel.
In related remarks, Trump has suggested the United States might later declare the Strait of Hormuz a U.S. territory, a claim that Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi dismissed as ineffective.
