Reiner siblings testify before grand jury in murder case of parents

Resumen

Jake and Romy Reiner appeared before the grand jury that indicted their brother Nick Reiner for the murders of their parents, though the content of their testimony has not been disclosed.

Jake Reiner, 35, and Romy Reiner, 28, testified before the Los Angeles County grand jury that issued an indictment against their brother Nick Reiner for the killings of their parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The district attorney's office confirmed the siblings' appearance but said the specifics of their statements have not been released.

The indictment, unsealed on Aug. 12, charges Nick, 32, with two counts of first-degree murder, special circumstances of multiple murders and murder by lying in wait, offenses that could carry life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. He entered a not-guilty plea on the same day and remains incarcerated at Twin Towers Correctional Facility awaiting trial.

Rob and Michele Reiner, married in 1989, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Dec. 2025 with multiple sharp-force injuries. A pre-trial hearing is set for Sept. 15.

In a statement released after the killings, the siblings described the loss as “horrific and devastating,” but did not mention Nick. Jake later wrote an essay noting that Nick, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and has a history of drug addiction, was “at the center” of the tragedy. Romy has not spoken publicly about the case beyond a tribute to their parents at a recent Dodgers game.

Nick has sought access to a $1.5 million trust to cover legal costs, but trustees denied the request citing the slayer statute, which bars a person who intentionally kills a decedent from benefiting from the estate. His attorney argued that the statute requires a formal determination of guilt, not merely an accusation.
