Five smartwatch alternatives to the Google Pixel Watch 5

Google’s latest Pixel Watch 5 adds new case colors, larger batteries and updated health metrics but retains much of the hardware from the previous generation, while its price has risen. Analysts note that the watch’s performance gains are modest compared to the Pixel Watch 4, which continues to receive software updates through October 2028 and is expected to drop in price.

The Pixel Watch 4, launched in 2025, is highlighted as the most affordable Wear OS device that supports Google’s Gemini AI features, with multi-day battery life, fast charging and dual-band GPS for runners. It starts at $350 for the Wi-Fi-only 41 mm model.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 9, released in July 2026, is positioned slightly cheaper than the Pixel Watch 5 and offers a newer Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, a sapphire crystal display and a larger battery. It runs One UI 9 Watch based on Wear OS 7 and includes the Raise-to-talk Gemini feature, though its 10 W charger is slower than the Pixel’s.

The 2024 Galaxy Watch 7 remains a budget-friendly option, with software support through 2028 and features such as sapphire glass and AI-driven Energy Score. Prices for the 44 mm non-LTE version range from $220 to $280, but GPS performance can be inconsistent in dense urban areas and some health functions require a Samsung phone.

For users focused on fitness, the Amazfit Balance 3 provides up to 21 days of battery life, 64 GB of storage, a sapphire-glass AMOLED screen and specialized training tools for HYROX competitions. It also supports calls, notifications and navigation.

The COROS PACE 4, starting at $250, targets competitive runners with dual-band GPS, a lightweight 32-gram design, up to 19 days of battery life and a suite of training analytics, including voice note capture.

Consumers are advised to compare these alternatives against the Pixel Watch 5’s higher price and limited hardware changes before making a purchase.
