Eagles edge Patriots in joint practice as Hurts rebounds from early interceptions

Summary

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts finished the session with two touchdowns after a slow start, while the Eagles' defense showed improved discipline against New England.

Philadelphia held a joint training-camp practice with the New England Patriots at the New Balance Athletics Center in Foxborough on Thursday. The Eagles appeared to out-perform the Patriots overall, according to observers, after a less successful first day of camp.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw two early interceptions, bringing his camp total to 11, but recovered by delivering touchdown passes to tight end Dallas Goedert and rookie receiver Dontayvion Wicks in the red-zone scrimmage. He also completed a two-point conversion to Darius Cooper.

The Eagles’ defense showed a stronger showing, with linebacker Jalyx Hunt recording two takeaways, including an interception and a forced fumble. Cornerback Riq Woolen improved after a difficult previous session, breaking up a pass and later celebrating a defensive play. Defensive end Arnold Ebiketie recorded a sack on Patriots quarterback Tommy DeVito.

In the backup-quarterback competition, Andy Dalton started the day but later took second-string reps, while Tanner McKee saw limited action. The practice featured several physical confrontations, typical of joint drills, and owner Jeffrey Lurie attended briefly.

The Eagles have no media availability on Friday before their preseason game against the Patriots on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.
