Eagles' defense shines in joint practice with Patriots, highlighted by Riq Woolen's interceptions

Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs dominated a joint practice with the New England Patriots on day 14 of the 2026 training camp. Rookie cornerback Riq Woolen recorded two interceptions against Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown, including a potential 100-yard pick-six that was broken up by a teammate, and a second turnover that was recovered by safety Jalyx Hunt, who also forced a fumble on Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Woolen added multiple pass breakups against rookie receiver Romeo Doubs and forced a red-zone incompletion.

Other defensive contributors included veteran linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, who was effective against the run and in coverage, and interior linemen Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis, who each logged tackles for loss and disrupted Patriots rushing attempts. Defensive end Nolan Smith also recorded a sack. Backup safety Andre' Sam displayed physical play against a blocking tight end and made tackles on Patriots ball carriers.

The Eagles' secondary saw additional highlights from backup players: Smael Mondon batted a pass on a blitz, Chance Campbell executed a surprise dip move, and rookie cornerback Kelee Ringo posted solid coverage and a pass breakup in the end zone.

Offensive observations were limited, as the Eagles' offense practiced on a separate field and was largely outmatched by the Patriots' defense. In the final scrimmage segment, quarterback Jalen Hurts connected on two touchdown passes—one to Hollywood Brown and another to Darius Cooper—while backup quarterback Andy Dalton also saw some reps. Rookie quarterback Tanner McKee did not participate.

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio commented on Ringo’s development, noting that the upcoming days would be crucial for his evaluation.
