Patriots highlight rookie receiver and kicker in ticketed practice

Summary

New England Patriots' ticketed training camp session featured strong showing from rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs and a flawless kicking performance by Andy Borregales, while some defensive backs struggled after returning from injury.

New England Patriots held a ticketed full-pads practice behind Gillette Stadium on Saturday, the team’s 15th camp session under head coach Mike Vrabel. Rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs stood out, connecting with quarterback Drake Maye for three touchdowns, including a contested catch in the back corner of the end zone. > "Doubs continues to develop chemistry with Maye and his ability to win 50-50 balls could be an asset for the Patriots this year," a team source said.

Maye completed 10 of 16 passes, operating mainly in the red zone and delivering a deep 40-yard pass to Kayshon Boutte. Wide receiver Mack Hollins added two touchdowns on play-action routes, showcasing his size and physicality. Second-round defensive end Gabe Jacas earned his first snaps with starters in an 11-on-11 drill, recording a run stop and a pressure on Maye.

Cornerbacks Carlton Davis III and Charles Woods returned from injury but allowed multiple receptions, including touchdowns to Doubs and Hollins. Kicker Andy Borregales redeemed his preseason opener by converting all six field-goal attempts, despite the narrower goal posts used in practice.

Other notes included Kayshon Boutte’s deep catch, a quiet day for DeMario Douglas, and Karon Prunty surrendering two touchdowns. Backup center Jacob Rizy will fill in for Ben Brown, who is out for several weeks, while Andrew Rupcich was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Patriots will conduct a closed-door walkthrough on Sunday.
