Brad Pitt discusses relapse, past suicidal thoughts and upcoming film in Esquire interview
The actor revealed he has resumed drinking after years of sobriety, recounted a brief period of suicidal ideation linked to family issues, and promoted his forthcoming movie "Heart of the Beast."
In an interview with Esquire published on Aug. 10, Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt said he ended a seven-year period of sobriety and now limits himself to a few glasses of wine, describing the need to remain "professional" about his consumption. He disclosed that a difficult family episode, including the recent death of his mother, led to a short span when he felt suicidal, saying he "couldn't see a way out" and describing the experience as "oppressive." Pitt also spoke about his involvement in the upcoming film "Heart of the Beast," in which he will star as Special Forces Officer James Belmont and serve as a producer. The movie, directed by David Ayer and co-starring J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe, is scheduled for release on Sept. 25, 2026. > "I was sober for seven years, and then I got back off the wagon in a more restrained manner," Pitt said. > "I've never been suicidal except for one little period. In that one little period, I just thought—I just couldn't—just didn't see a way out," he added.
