Islam Makhachev Breaks UFC Record with 17th Consecutive Win

Resumen

Islam Makhachev defeated Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision at UFC 330, setting a new UFC record with his 17th straight victory.

Islam Makhachev secured a unanimous decision over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 on Saturday, extending his winning streak to a record 17 consecutive fights. The 34-year-old lightweight champion won two judges’ cards 49-46 and the third 48-47 in a five-round bout that saw both fighters absorb significant damage.

"He gave me a hard time, but I still prove it every fight," Makhachev said after the fight.

Makhachev, now 29-1, surpassed the previous record held by Hall of Famer Anderson Silva, which had stood for 13 years. He has not lost since UFC 192 in 2015 and captured the lightweight title in his first attempt at UFC 322 in November 2025.

Dana White, UFC chief executive, commented on the achievement, noting the difficulty of breaking such a long-standing mark.

"If he keeps going like he says he’s going to keep going, it might never be beaten."

Machado Garry, who entered the fight with a 17-2 record, managed to win the third round on all scorecards and landed seven significant strikes in the final round, but it was insufficient to stop Makhachev’s streak.

"I believed in my heart and soul I was better than him tonight, and he won. No complaints, no excuses," Machado Garry said.

The event also featured other notable moments, including Mackenzie Dern’s successful defense of the 115-pound title and the retirement of veteran Edson Barboza after a loss on the main card.
