Makhachev and Garry set to clash for welterweight title at UFC 330
UFC 330 in Newark will feature Islam Makhachev defending his welterweight championship against Ian Garry, while Mackenzie Dern faces Gillian Robertson for the women’s strawweight belt.
Islam Makhachev will defend his welterweight title against Ireland’s Ian Garry at UFC 330 on Saturday in Newark. The bout pits the two-division champion, who entered the welterweight division unbeaten in 16 UFC fights, against the rising contender who holds a 13-0 record and trains with BJJ specialists Demian Maia and Charles Oliveira.
"Garry's advantages of five inches in height and four inches in reach should combine with his cage IQ and defensive skills to make this a difficult test of Makhachev's all-around game," analyst Brian Campbell said. "Makhachev will likely be able to score enough takedowns and do good enough work on the ground to earn a decision victory," Brent Brookhouse added. The event also includes a women’s strawweight title fight, with champion Mackenzie Dern defending against Gillian Robertson. Dern, who captured the belt last year, is expected to rely on her striking edge, according to Campbell. Other notable matchups on the card are Jalin Turner vs. Kauê Fernandes, Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Dustin Stoltzfus, and a middleweight clash between Tresean Gore and Vicente Luque. Odds from DraftKings show Makhachev as a -360 favorite and Garry at +285, while Dern is listed at -218 against Robertson at +180.
