Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley Wins Wisconsin Democratic Gubernatorial Primary

Résumé

David Crowley defeated state Rep. Francesca Hong in the Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor, positioning him to face Republican nominee Tom Tiffany in the November election.

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley secured the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin governor, defeating state Representative Francesca Hong in the June primary, according to the Associated Press. Crowley, who received endorsement and campaign support from outgoing Democratic Governor Tony Evers, will meet Republican U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany in the November general election.

Hong, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and former chef, had campaigned on policies such as a statewide minimum wage increase to $20 per hour, guaranteed paid leave, and a temporary moratorium on new AI data centers. She previously faced criticism for past social-media posts about police funding and Thanksgiving, which she later said she had revised.

Evers and other party officials warned that a Hong nomination could jeopardize Democratic prospects in the statewide race. A Democratic strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity, suggested that a more moderate candidate might be advantageous for down-ballot contests.

Republican super-PACs reportedly invested in advertising against Hong, viewing her as a less competitive candidate in the general election. Tiffany, the Republican nominee, described the upcoming contest as a test of the state's political direction.

Both candidates have emphasized voter outreach as the campaign progresses toward Election Day.
