FBI reports over 6,000 arrests in Washington, D.C. one year after federal crime crackdown

Résumé

The FBI said its intensified enforcement in the capital has resulted in more than 6,000 arrests, numerous drug and firearm seizures, and a reported 44% decline in homicides since the program began.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation marked the one-year anniversary of a federal crime-reduction effort in Washington, D.C., reporting that the operation has led to 6,121 arrests, 237 search warrants and the seizure of $252,592 in cash. The initiative, launched by the administration last summer, also involved nearly 2,000 drug seizures and more than 1,300 illegal firearm seizures.

FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital that homicides in the district have fallen 44% compared with the previous year. He said the continued presence of federal agents and National Guard troops is intended to keep the capital safe for residents and visitors.

The crackdown was introduced after a series of violent incidents in the city, including the June 2025 killing of a congressional intern and other assaults. The deployment of the National Guard drew criticism from local officials, with Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser questioning the legality of using the Guard for policing duties.
