AOC's split from fiancé reported months before she began egg-freezing process

Resumen

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reportedly ended her engagement to Riley Roberts about a year and a half before announcing she is undergoing egg-freezing, according to a source cited by a journalist.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has reportedly ended her engagement to longtime partner Riley Roberts several months before she announced she was beginning an egg-freezing procedure. The information comes from a source familiar with the matter, as reported by a Washington correspondent for Puck News. The correspondent noted that the congresswoman stopped wearing her engagement ring more than 18 months ago and that no recent public photos of the couple have appeared.

Ocasio-Cortez disclosed her decision to freeze her eggs in an Instagram live video, saying she had been considering the option for a long time and wanted to share the experience with her followers. She described the process as “pretty minimal so far,” mentioning side effects such as bloating, tenderness and sleep disturbances, but no mood changes.

The couple, who met at Boston University in 2009, became engaged in May 2022 after a decade of dating. Their last public appearance together was at the 2021 Met Gala. The congresswoman’s office has not responded to requests for comment.

"I want to share this because I was weighing it for a very long time, and I think that, you know, I was saving for it for a very long time, and there just isn’t a ton out there, I feel, and sometimes it can feel very daunting," Ocasio-Cortez said during the Instagram live session.

The news emerges while the House of Representatives is on its August recess, and Ocasio-Cortez continues to document the procedure on her social-media platforms.
