Nigel Farage wins Clacton by-election as Count Binface secures 27% of vote
Nigel Farage reclaimed the Clacton parliamentary seat on 6 August, winning about 63% of the vote and defeating novelty candidate Count Binface, who secured roughly 27%; BBC reported that the parliamentary standards commissioner reopened its probe into Farage's undeclared £5 million donation after the result. Farage had triggered the by-election by resigning his seat in early August, prompting a contest that featured 34 candidates, including the satirical Count Binface portrayed by Jon Harvey.
Counting began at the local leisure centre after polls closed at BST. Earlier, Conservative Party chair Kemi Badenoch said the Tories would stand a candidate if the standards investigation resumed, while Reform UK criticised the party’s absence.
