Raiders coach downplays altercation between Maxx Crosby and Kirk Cousins as typical training camp tension
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said a confrontation between quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive end Maxx Crosby during practice was normal camp behavior and not a cause for concern.
During the final minutes of a Friday practice, Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive end Maxx Crosby became involved in a physical dispute after Crosby tipped a pass in the backfield, prompting Cousins to grab Crosby’s collar. The incident escalated into a verbal exchange, after which Cousins led a two-minute drill and performed well, rebounding from two interceptions earlier in the session.
In a post-practice press conference, head coach Klint Kubiak described the confrontation as part of the normal intensity of training camp, noting that both players are team leaders. > "Yeah, that’s training camp," Kubiak said. "Those are two leaders of our team going at it. So, that is part of camp. Obviously, you fight in a game, you throw a punch in the game, especially, then you’re out of the game. So, we’ve got to be smart, treat it like a game."
Kubiak added that while such interactions are expected as players compete daily, the Raiders must ensure the energy is directed constructively as the preseason progresses.
