Packers players earn roster spots after strong training-camp performances

Resumen

Five Green Bay Packers players, including defensive tackles Anthony Campbell and Warren Brinson, guard Jacob Monk, and defensive backs Jaylin Simpson and Brandon Cisse, have improved their standing and are poised for significant roles as preseason approaches.

Green Bay, Wis. – Several Packers players have elevated their standing during the first two weeks of training camp, positioning themselves for key roles ahead of the preseason game against the Steelers.

Defensive tackle Anthony Campbell, an undrafted free agent from Miami who spent most of his rookie year on the practice squad, has impressed coaches with his ability to pressure the quarterback, bat down passes and defend the run. "It's not over yet," Campbell said after a practice session.

Sixth-round pick Warren Brinson, who recorded a half-sack and 13 tackles last season, has emerged as a standout interior rusher. He credited intensive offseason work with performance coach Tom Bender for his progress, noting that he still has “a long way to go.”

Guard Jacob Monk, a fifth-round pick in 2024 who saw limited action as a rookie, is now competing for the starting right-guard position. Monk described his focus as simply improving each day and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to earn a larger role.

Cornerback Jaylin Simpson, a 2024 fifth-round pick who entered camp on the roster bubble, has taken advantage of injuries to teammates and delivered strong performances in recent practices, including a 99-yard interception return. Coach Matt LaFleur praised his impact, saying the player is “growing” and playing with confidence.

Second-round pick Brandon Cisse, who was expected to compete for playing time, secured a spot in the lineup after an injury to starter Carrington Valentine. Cisse emphasized his high personal standards and commitment to continual improvement.

The players’ progress comes as the Packers finalize their 53-man roster ahead of the upcoming preseason matchup.
