Six dead and 15 injured in school shooting near Bangkok, police say gunman also killed

Resumen

A shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district of Thailand left at least six people dead and 15 wounded, with the suspected student gunman found dead at the scene.

At least six people were killed and 15 injured when gunfire erupted at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district on the northwestern outskirts of Bangkok on Friday, police said. National police spokesperson Trairong Phiwphan confirmed that the suspected gunman, identified as a student, also died in the incident.

Thai public broadcaster Thai PBS reported that the fatalities included three teachers and three students. Emergency responders filmed ambulances arriving at the school, with victims being carried on stretchers.

One 18-year-year-old student told Reuters he initially thought the noises were firecrackers, adding, "I didn’t think it was a gun at first. There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again."

The school, which enrolls about 3,100 students and employs 147 teachers, has not released further details about the motive or the weapon used. Authorities noted that Thailand’s gun laws are strict, imposing up to ten years in prison for illegal possession, though gun ownership remains relatively high in the region.
