Former Miss North Carolina USA claims title removal linked to her beliefs

Résumé

Brittany Boltinhouse, former Miss North Carolina USA 2026, says she was stripped of her crown because of her conservative Christian views, though details remain undisclosed due to a nondisclosure agreement.

Former Miss North Carolina USA 2026 Brittany Boltinhouse told the Carolina Journal that she believes her title was removed because of her personal beliefs. She said the decision was "ripped" from her and suggested her conservative Christian stance may have been a factor, but declined to elaborate, citing a nondisclosure agreement.

"I don't know, but all I can say is that I think and believe that my title was ripped from me because of my beliefs," Boltinhouse said.

She emphasized that she does not intend to criticize the Miss USA organization or state directors, describing her experience with them as positive. Boltinhouse identified herself as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and described herself as a "proud conservative woman" and a "God-fearing woman."

When asked about past social-media posts that had circulated online, she declined to discuss specifics, stating that everyone makes mistakes and she prefers to focus on who she is today.

"Every teenager has made a mistake. Every person here has made a mistake. But I'm not really here to talk about that. I'm here to talk about the woman I am today," she said.

Bolitnhouse highlighted the awards she received during the competition, including Miss Congeniality, Best Gown, People's Choice and Fitness, noting that Miss Congeniality reflected her character.

The Miss USA organization confirmed that Boltinhouse was stripped of her title and reiterated its policy against racism, homophobia, transphobia and demeaning language, but has not released further details about the conduct that prompted the action.
