Maryland DNR closes trails after beaver bites 10-year-old, investigates rabies cases

Maryland Department of Natural Resources officials said a beaver bit a 10-year-old girl canoeing at Seneca Creek State Park on August 14, leading to the closure of about a mile of trail while staff searched for the animal. Earlier in July, two beavers at Cunningham Falls State Park were identified as rabid after attacks that injured a 19-year-old fisherman and another visitor, prompting the lake’s closure and an intensive wildlife search.
